Failed to register hot key - stuck in loop

I've seen this issue posted multiple times, but the threads never get to a real resolution - so I believe it's still an issue.

  1. Attempted to set a Hotkey for "Sensor Logging -> Enable Toggling Hot Key" (ETHK)
  2. Hit "OK", got an error about failing to register the hot key.
  3. Unchecked both "Enable Hot Key to Reset Values" (RVHK)
  4. Restarted software, got error again, and both values were re-checked and both now shared the same hot key (which I had only set to ETHK)
  5. Rebooted PC - have app set to start with Windows
  6. Got the error again - app didn't load
  7. Manually open app - get the error again, both values checked again and with the same hotkey (again, I didn't set this hotkey for both, RVHK seems to be inheriting the key I'm setting for ETHK)
  8. Checked and unchecked multiple times, tried to set multiple keys for ETHK and nothing works - and no matter what I put in that field, after UNCHECKING RVHK, when I come back RVHK will have checked itself and inherited the same hot key
  9. The error persists on every load and I can't get it to stop.
  10. I attempted deleting both registry keys per another thread, didn't help - they just reset themselves when the app loads like it's pulling from a config file somewhere else
Will add that I have a "Pro" paid license key and version v8.23-5695

No other apps are using these hotkeys as far as I'm aware - and at this point I've tried nearly every key on the keyboard.

Could use some assistance - really don't want to have to reset all this. I'm not seeing any type of "export settings" button to make it easy for me to back all this up.

Did you also click "OK" after unchecking the respective boxes?
Please do a "Backup User Settings" from main settings of HWiNFO. The compress the file saved (with ZIP, RAR, 7z) and attach here so I can analyze the settings.

I did click "OK" after each time - assuming that was equivalent to save+close.

Attached is the backup - good to know that is a thing too; I missed it when looking around.

I can also install recording software and take a video if that is helpful.

Thank you. I found the bug and it shall be fixed in the next build.
For the time being, you can get rid of those keys by deleting the following registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HWiNFO64\Sensors: AutoLoggingHotKey, ResetValuesHotKey

I just wanted to confirm that I updated to the latest version and all seems to be well! Appreciate you tackling that.

HHello, I have version 8.26 and the hotkey error has been occurring for a few days. This means I can no longer turn the OSD on and off. Unfortunately, pressing a different key doesn't help either.

The problem reported in this thread was fixed a while ago. Your might be something else. What exactly happens, can you provide more details?

Das in diesem Thread gemeldete Problem wurde vor einiger Zeit behoben. Bei Ihnen könnte es sich um ein anderes Problem handeln. Was genau passiert, können Sie weitere Details angeben?
When starting hwinfo the message “failed to hotkey register” appears. And since this message I can no longer turn off the OSD and it is permanently displayed.

Have you maybe associated the same hotkey with some other program or action?
You should still be able to go into OSD settings and turn the OSD off manually.

Haben Sie denselben Hotkey möglicherweise mit einem anderen Programm oder einer anderen Aktion verknüpft?
Sie sollten weiterhin in der Lage sein, in die OSD-Einstellungen zu gehen und das OSD manuell auszuschalten
T It was disabled during the reinstallation, but the message still appeared. This also happens with every key I set.I can definitely disable it manually in the program, but I'd like to be able to do it again via hotkey.

Try this. Start "regedit" and navigate into: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HWiNFO64\Sensors
Then delete the "OsdToggleHotKey" item.
