Since I installed the new nVIDIA drivers (576.28) on my laptop, the dGPU remains active all the time while HWinfo is running. Only when I exit HWINFO does the dGPU switch off and on as it should.
Yes sir, version 8.24-5700. When I switched back to the old drivers (572.83), everything started working normally again; dgpu goes on and off while hwinfo is running.
The problem persists with the drivers released today (576.4). I noticed that changing Global Polling Period to 11000ms or more solves the problem. I don't know what to make of this but perhaps you do. I also reported the problem to nVIDIA but I haven't heard any comments yet.
Hmm, that's a huge delay required.
HWiNFO in each polling cycle and before accessing the GPU queries the state. If the GPU is sleeping, it won't proceed with further queries to avoid waking it up.
Must be some bug in drivers...
