For anyone experiencing these issues:
- MACHINE CHECK ERRORS
- L0 cache errors
- L3 cache errors (was most common for me)
- Random restarts
- Windows BSOD
My system is an AMD Threadripper on a Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D motherboard.
The 'Advanced Memory Settings'->'Power Down Enable' DRAM feature is very problematic if left on Auto or Enabled.
It has a tendency to reset back to 'Auto' after a power reset or hardware changes, and has been a sneaky repeat problem for me.
Try to set this to 'Disabled' before assuming the CPU or other hardware is defective.
