I can't reproduce this neither.  Let me see if I can maybe add some verbose debug output to help narrow it down.  I'll reply back.

Please delete the "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\HWiNFOMonitor" folder and then try to load the gadget again.  This resets the gadget back to defaults.

Windows 8 & 10 no longer have a Windows Sidebar platform.  This was only available in Windows Vista & 7. There is a third party tool called 8GadgetPack that adds the sidebar back so you can add gadgets.  This is what I'm using to test.
